Hansa Puttuwa - Decorative motif of twin swans: a traditional Sri Lankan motif, signifies the unity and prosperity. It also used to illustrate the elegance and beauty of a woman along with the majestic masculinity of a man and in essence, features a twist between muscularity and feminity in womenswear clothing.
This motif is commonly used at traditional Sinhala Buddhist weddings, from Jewelry to back drop decorations at wedding ceremonies. In many occasions the stage where the couple stands for the rituals and traditions is also decorated with this motif using various raw material such as coconut palms or flower.
The silver or gold necklace of the bride (mostly Sinhala Buddhist Kandyan Brides) also consists of the decoration of this twin swan mortif.
